Inside Adobe Rojo
Angelica Valdez
needs a miracle.
Her family’s historic northern New Mexico farm, Adobe Rojo, has survived for generations. Angelica has transformed it into an executive retreat, but someone seems determined to destroy it. False reviews are driving away customers, the booking system has been hacked, and vandalism is making an already precarious business nearly impossible to save.
The explanation is stranger—and more dangerous—than she could imagine.
Three spectacularly inept sisters from Idaho have lost something belonging to a powerful drug trafficker. To settle their debt, they’ve been ordered to acquire Adobe Rojo, a property he wants for his own purposes. Buying it would be easiest. Ruining it first is Plan B.
Then Tucker Vigil arrives.
Tucker leads a Denver engineering team racing to stabilize HighBall, a troubled software platform that could transform the restaurant industry—assuming they can keep it running long enough to release it. Hoping an offsite will recharge his exhausted team, Tucker books Adobe Rojo despite its terrible online reputation.
The engineers quickly discover that the retreat’s problems aren’t accidental. Soon they’re rebuilding Adobe Rojo’s digital defenses while simultaneously trying to save their own product launch, concealing their extracurricular activities from corporate cybersecurity, and navigating the bureaucratic demands of a company where fixing the problem is often easier than getting permission to fix it.
But the engineers aren’t the only ones under pressure.
As the sisters’ increasingly desperate schemes fail in ever more improbable ways, their creditor loses patience. What began as online sabotage and petty vandalism escalates toward something none of the engineers are prepared for.
With a summer storm gathering over the mountains, desperation and violence are closing in on Adobe Rojo—and bad luck is about to choose sides.
